Ski Trip to Cortina d´Ampezzo
Skiing Experience
The ski region offers a wide variety of slopes of every level of difficulty. Cortina is part of the Dolomiti Superski circuit. Only one ski-pass gives you access to 450 lifts and 1.220km (758mi) of slopes and trails. Skiers find a system of modern ski lifts and snowmaking capabilities that cover 90% of the slopes. This guarantees a ski season that stretches from November to April.
The main skiing areas are the Cortina Cube (Faloria, Cristallo, Mietres), Tofana with Cortina’s largest number of high, snow-sure slopes and Cinque Torri which serve fantastically quiet terrain. All areas offer plenty of challenging runs and boasts stunning views in every direction. All areas are linked through lifts or local ski buses.
Skiing from meal to meal
Cortina is famous for its mountain refuges. About 30 mountain huts known as rifugio can be reached on piste. Good affordable food is as predictable as good views across all ski areas in Cortina.
Worth knowing
The region boasts stunning views in every direction as it is dominated by the jagged rock walls of the Dolomites. Some of the most eye-catching peaks in Europe. The valley of Cortina is a true paradise for nature lovers and sport enthusiasts alike. Cortina’s slopes and mountains were the filming location for a lot of movies like Silvester Stallone in “Cliffhanger” and Roger Moore as James Bond in “For Your Eyes Only” where he was hurtling down the slopes on skis with bad guys on spiked-wheeled motorbikes exploding in his wake.
Off the slopes
Although Cortina runs World Cup races, it is not a hard-core ski resort. Visitors to Cortina, mostly from Italy, don’t step on to the slopes. They come to enjoy the town cruising the Corso Italia at 5 pm. Seeing and being seen is the second sport in Cortina d’ Ampezzo. It is Italy’s answer to St Moritz and Aspen. The resort is home to some of the most famous names in fashion.
Cortina offers many opportunities to enjoy your holiday in the most blissful ways. Try out some other winter sports from ice skating to sledding, from hockey to bob. Also, you can try a trip with a snowmobile or simply have long walks in this pristine pure beauty.
