Obergurgl and Hochgurgl are charming, traditional Austrian villages. The first skiers took to the slopes in 1911, making Obergurgl the second oldest ski area in Austria after St Anton. As there are only 400 inhabitants living in Obergurgl all year round the resort attracts over 100,000 visitors a year during the winter season, mostly from Germany, UK and the Benelux countries.

Obergurgl- Hochgurgl are one of Europe’s highest ski villages with a peaceful, welcoming ambience. Obergurgl is at 1,930m its hamlet Hochgurgl, at 2,150m. The ski region is known as Austria’s most snowsure non-glacial resort and its long ski season from November to May. It is at the southern end of the Ötz-Valley and offers a wide variety of slopes of every level of difficulty: 24 mountain lifts and 110 kilometers of immaculate ski slopes (35 km easy (blue) ski runs, 55 km intermediate (red) ski runs and 20 km difficult (black) ski runs. The skiing and lifts start directly from the village. And as Obergurgl is relatively small, with lifts at either end, it’s quick and easy to get up the mountain.

Obergurgl’s scenic ski runs are popular with beginner and intermediate skiers. Hochgurgl, with its steeper, more challenging runs, is just a short gondola ride away.  Off-piste opportunities are excellent, and in the late spring, the resort is a major destination for ski touring especially those along the Italian frontier.

Compared to other resorts Obergurgl- Hochgurgl is a much smaller skiing area. But people come here for the overall experience of friendly villages and intermediate slopes that are equally snowsure in December and April.

Children up to 8 years old can ski for free with their parents and the wide slopes are very suitable for families. Little ski guests enjoy the fun slope in Hochgurgl and the wild animal safari Zauberwald in Obergurgl. Once they are a bit more secure on their skis, they can explore the easy slopes at the Krumpwasser lift.

The Obergurgl-Hochgurgl ski resort offers wonderful culinary delights for winter sports enthusiasts. However, nightlife’ as such is generally pleasingly quieter. It is not a resort for party animals.
